Maternity Voices Partnership

Maternity Voices Partnership

Supported by the NHS, the MVP Central Lancashire is an independent advisory body that reviews and co-produces maternity services with women, their families, health and care professionals. The partnership is chaired by local service users, and meets every couple of months in the Central Lancashire area in a child-friendly environment.

If you are pregnant or a parent to be, or had a baby recently and want to help make a difference to maternity services, we would love to hear from you.

You can get in touch to find out more in a number of ways:

Meet the Chairs:

Francesca Seed

Francesca has been Chair of MVP Central Lancashire for 3 years.  Francesca has 3 children and became involved with Maternity Services during the pregnancy of her 2nd child.  Francesca is a true advocate for women and families who use maternity services; choice and informed decision making is the core of all motivation in her advocating for women.  Francesca has presented for MU Net, NHS England and at Better Births, she has  also taken her story of informed choice, autonomy and continuity of carer to LTHT Board to highlight the importance of receiving all and the positive impact on her own pregnancy and birth experiences.

Francesca truly believes in the importance of hearing the voice of service users to initiate and coproduce change within the maternity service offered not only within the Central Lancashire Maternity Voices patch, but also nationwide and has recently completed a project to ensure that service user voices are heard from the Armed Forces Communities across the country within a NHS England and Armed Forces Collaboration to improve maternity services for Armed Forces Personnel and their Families.

Francesca is exceptionally proud of the relationship that has been established between the MVP, Maternity Service Providers, the Service users and also the CCG.

Alongside being the Co-Chair for Central Lancashire MVP, Francesca is a Management Assessor and also a Doula.

Kate Ismail

Picture of chair of MVP Kate Ismail

Kate-Maryam Ismail has been a Chair of MVP Central Lancs for the last 6 years. She is a mother of four boys aged 6 years to 7 months old, three of whom were born at home- something she champions regularly.

Kate strongly believes the voice of the service user must be heard, and that co-design of maternity systems creates a service offering that works best for both providers and service users. She is an advocate of women's birth rights, and is passionate about providing evidence based information to women and their families, enabling and empowering them to make informed choices about their maternity care. She has a special interest in perinatal mental health, 'postdates' pregnancies, induction of labour, and the experiences of BAEM women using maternity services.

Alongside her MVP role, she is a qualified Primary School Teacher, with an MA in Educational Development, working both in the UK and abroad. She is also Managing Director of the medical company she runs with her husband, an enthusiastic (if very amateur!) long distance runner, and a lifelong motorsport fan.
